October 23, 2006 There are many reasons why academic medicine is rewarding. One of the most stimulating experiences is seeing our trainees grow and develop. The Fall Research Symposium 2006 was a total success and a vibrant example of that. There were twelve very well organized presentations. Seven of them were given by our residents, one each by a neurology and internal medicine resident respectively and two by a medical student. The event was carried out with tremendous enthusiasm. All did a fantastic job. It is really inspiring to see that we participate in advancing knowledge from Shreveport. Alas, there were fantastic and provocative studies that may change how we diagnose neurological conditions and cardiac nuclear medicine studies; make us aware on how to evaluate severe trauma cases and what we can do with ingenuity and patient care in image-guided interventions. My appreciation to the administrative personnel for taking care of the details so the meeting could happen. Thank you to faculties and residents that could not make it and I know may have liked to be there. Very special thanks to Jeanae for putting the syllabus together and being the GPS so everybody knew where to go. Thank you to Shannon for her baptism as Residency Coordinator and breaking the ice (she even brought Ben, her husband, to help). Those that attended the Fall Research Symposium 2006 on Saturday morning relaxed after the meeting and enjoyed great camaraderie with family members at Tacomania. It was wonderful that the children put the spice (and the salsa) to the gathering. The pictures show the great fun we had. I appreciate very much your good work and support to the academic mission of the department. We are moving forward and there is more to come! Horacio D’Agostino, MD |
